Suchet’s early interest in the theatre led to his membership of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain in the 60’s and three years of study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA). He began his stage career in regional theatres and repertory productions, and he is probably the youngest ever to have played Shylock in The Merchant of Venice at the age of 23.
In 1973 he joined the RSC and performed many of the classical roles at Stratford, the Aldwych and on tour in the US. In between RSC roles he also worked with The Birmingham Repertory Theatre Company (Sherlock Holmes, The Norman Conquests, The Devil is an Ass, Measure for Measure) and performed a very successful one-man-show The Kreutzer Sonata by Tolstoy at the Royal Court’s Theatre.
Since the late 80’s Suchet has performed various roles on the London and West End stages and in several regional theatres as well as on Broadway (Amadeus) – bricksite.com/davidsuchet
