The most common cause of skin cancer is the ultraviolette rays of the sun.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer disease in Denmark and it is still a growing problem.

Skin cancer is usually caused by the exposure of ultraviolette rays from the sun. The illness is often seen on areas such as hands and face, which are almost always exposed in the sun.

Sunlight enhances the risk of getting skin cancer
The suns ultraviolette rays enhances the risk of developing skin cancer. Most people with skin cancer are older people, who have worked outside or been expose to large sums of sun light through out their life.

Critical factors in getting skin cancer:
  • Sunburns in early childhood
  • The total amount of sun that you have been exposed to

People with light skin are the most exposed.
Skin cancer is often seen with people with light skin, because people with light skin are typically blonds or redheads, who are the most exposed. Often people with keltic roots are hit by skin cancer.

The skins pigmentation – we are talking about the amount of melanin(the brown colour in the skin) acts as protection. That is why people with dark skin rarely get skin cancer.

Solariums and mountain lamp sun enhances the risk of skin cancer.
Solarium and mountain lamp sun enhances the risk between 1,5 - 2,5 times more of getting skin cancer compared to people who dont use artificial sun.

The risk of getting the disease is greater the younger you are when sunbathing in artificial sun.
