This weekend I went to Melaka for 3 days!! It is such a lovely little town, there wasn't much to do there but the food was gorgeous, the town pretty and the atmosphere was great!! I stayed in a small guesthouse called Jalan-Jalan Besi which I would definitely recommend for anyone staying in Melaka - The owner was lovely (he remembered everyones names and introduced everyone to each other), it was very clean, had a nice living room area where were all the guests were relaxina and chatting and the atmosphere was just really cosy and friendly!!!
Here is a few photos of some of the places I saw, things I did and people I met:
TBS bus station in KL which have busses to most southern destinations including Johor, Melaka and Singapore! Was pleasantly surprised by the super organized queues - first time I have been to a bus station in Southeast Asia where you didn't get confused less then 5 seconds after entering the building
Me waiting for the bus
Having arrived in Melaka I went to the local night market where I had a delicious dinner from one of the food stalls
Lively atmosphere in the busy streets
Sightseeing - The Dutch Square which is the main square in the town, from here you can cross the bridge to go to old Chinatown or walk in the opposite direction takes you to the newer part of town
Did you say Dutch Square? If cause a Dutch Square need a mill otherwise you wouldn't know it was Dutch :)
Refreshments - Didn't actually try them but they looked really fun so I took a picture
More sightseeing - St. Paul's church (what is left of it)
Pretty self-explanatory really
Same
Walking the streets of Melaka you would occasionally hear really loud hip music and I kept turning around thinking I would find some young guy hanging out the window of a car trying to look cool but..... Nope, instead you saw these crazy kitsch rides decorated with plastic flowers, [...]tinsel, Christmas lights, baby doll heads, hello kitty things etc!! Read more...↑
River cruise along the Melaka river
All along the river were these quirky little houses painted in all different colours
At the hostel I stayed in I met 4 students from Singapore that were on a long weekend to Melaka! We went for dinner at Nancy's kitchen, a very nice little restaurant that served traditional dishes

For dessert we had Durian puffs - Durian is apparently a fruit which is blended with cream and put inside pastries... Am not sure it is my thing but they were okay
After a little night market shopping we went to a pub to get a drink before heading back to the hostel - All in all a very lovely little break in Melaka and I am now rested and ready for another week of work :)
