I want to give you an opportunity to see a part of my collection of cards and stamps.
I started my postcard collection when I was about 14 years old. I had a lot of pen pals around the world and we sent cards to each. As an adult, I continued to collect postcards, christmascards, stamps and stuff like that and now I have a larger collection.
Age is no barrier to a postcard in order be of interest to a collector. Today no one is trying to collect all the postcards that have been made but chooses to gather some areas.
To hold a card in my hand which is over 100 years old is something special to me. Think what it has experienced in all those years and unbelievable that it is fine and still intact. Willpreserved it can easily be 200 years old.
How old the card realy is can not always be determined. An unused card may look like a very old card, and actuarly it turns out to be much younger than expected and vice versa. However size, look, printing techniques and motives tell about the card's age. The motif itself can also display a place or an event which you can use to determine the card's age. Is the card sent a postal stamp can tell clearly and evidently how far back in time we need to go but it may well have lain in a drawer for many years before beeing used.
Often, the postmark so indistinct that it can not be read. Sometimes the stamp has been carefully removed. A stamp collector has been stealing. :(
.Like many other children and young people before me, I began to collect stamps when I was a child. I had many pen pals and started collecting stamps.
For several years I was only interessede in the stamps but started some years years ago, to let them remain on the envelopes and cards. This means that I now have two collections of stamps. A good old-fashioned one where I only have stamps and one where I have the stamps on either an envelope or card. Many of the cards are also a part of my collection of Christmas cards or postcards.
