Easter 2008 was spent securing the yard in order for it to be ready for the time of year where the door is open almost all day. I attached shelves at varying heights to the existing wooden fences and on the street side where a lot of people and dogs come by and the cats therefore have a lot to watch, the shelves were placed in line with the top of the fence (with an overhang).

Guinness also enjoyed the peace and quiet of the yard on a lovely sunny day.
The log is a cherry tree which was felled by my parents and the cats use it as a slightly advanced ladder to get to the shelves.

On the other side of the yard facing the neighbour it wasn't necessary to secure the fence as much since the neighbour's shed ensured that there is no way through. Therefore, this fence has been named "the smallest run in the world", though if you ask Sander and Galliano (and now also Fanny) this doesn't make it less entertaining.

The yard is also popular when covered in snow, especially with Sander. The snow really has to be piled high to keep him from his daily inspection rounds and he is here seen coming down from his special watchpoint in the yard, the Mexican oven:

When the snow is high in winter, the "wellbehaved" owner tramps walkways around the yard giving them a way to the regular watchpoints - and it doesn't last long before they all gather by the hedge facing the street where passing dogs and cats leave numerous tracks.
