I live in a relatively small semi-detached house with the cats, but luckily cats count in cubic metres and not square metres and I have therefore made use of the height of both the house and the yard, both to provide the cats with challenges and exercise and also to provide then with the possibility of taking a quiet rest away from the others.
The bedroom has a bed loft at one end and I have made a connection to it with a combined shelf and scratch post wall which means that the cats can run from the bed via various shelves to the bed loft and down the bed loft ladder - only to start again. As the first kitten in this house, Fanny has never had any problems getting to the bed loft as she simply climbed the scratch post to the hammock and jumped from there to the bed loft.
