Walking around with a metal detector has been a dream I’ve had for years, a dream which has now been tried in real life.
After reading a lot about it and seeing what other people found, it eventually became necessary to try it and see if it was possible for me to find something interesting from the past too.
I bought my first metal detector and got started, and I pretty quickly found the first old things like coins etc.
My brother Peter and my friend Tobias quickly became just as interested, and Peter also bought a metal detector and went to work.
In a very short time, it became a hobby for the entire family, and it’s ended up becoming many hours of fresh air out in nature.
It’s evolved into a hobby that’s a nice break from busy everyday life, where we – when time allows – catch a few hours in fields and woods, and it has also resulted in me discovering how much interesting history exists, when we’ve looked for leads on where to search.
The finds we made have also opened up for a world of fascinating history, when we have had to figure out afterwards what we found and where these things come from.
It’s just as exciting as hunting and fishing, when you’re hunting for the next old silver coin or treasure.
History in school has never interested me that much, but after I started using the metal detector, this has changed.
