On faith

I come across many different kind of people in my teaching adventures all over the world, currently writing to you from Istanbul/Turkey. It is very interesting how people from different cultures and backgrounds all over the world actually approach and embrace spiritual teachings such as mediumship pr. instance.

One thing that I find especially interesting is how the difference in beliefsystems actually makes a huge difference in how the students develop. In Denmark where I have been running 1 year mediumship schemes during the past 10 years it is not normal to believe in God, but in Turkey actually all my students has a relationship with God. (Allah).

Now one could ask, why and how is that important? What role does ”faith” have in our development as mediums ? I have observed this matter from two perspectives. Objectively from my practical experiences teaching and subjectivly through my own development within my personal mediumship AND faith. First of all I believe faith to be a extremely important pillar in the human experience. Without faith in some way or form, life can be a huge challenge and at times quite difficult to say the least, even and often to the point of un bearable. In my life whatever happends, whatever obstacles and difficulties I have endavoured it allways comes down to my ability or lack of the same, to have faith, no matter what. Because when looking back, there were allways a reason why the things happend as they did.

So what is really faith then? Faith is obviously very many things but a fundamental ingredient in faith as such is that you believe yourself to be not alone, meaning that ”someone” or ”something” is watching over you, guiding you and wanting the very best for you. Ergo faith in action, could be explained as to feel yourself to be ”connected” to something or somebody.

Lack of faith can therefore during hard times be felt as a quite painful because it can manifest feelings of solitude, loneliness. No one or nobody is there to help, support and guide you. This also applies to human relationships naturally. So one could maybe dare to conclude that to carry faith is to stay ”connected” and to ”not believe” could manifefst itself as feeling ”not connected”. We could maybe call theese two states of existance for LOVE and FEAR to make it more concrete. Now fear is painfull. By letting the fear take over and control you, you feel victimized and can get more and more isolated from others, the world, the universe. You shrink and dissapear as an individual. Everything can overwhelm you. You lack control and feel absorbed by the surroundings. Love on the other hand create a feeling of being ”connected”, it expands your energy and empower your feeling of self.

Now why am I talking about theese things and what does it have to do with mediumship? Well...it is simple. As mediums we work with the ”spiritworld”. Most mediums percieve the spirits through the psychic faculties such as, clairvoyance, clairaudience etc, but in a subjective way. In other words, we work with a invisible world. Now in order to enhance our mediumship, faith is an absolute must. If you as a medium dont trust what ever you are feeling, recieving, percieving, seeing, your mediumship cannot function. Simple as that. God representing that power to which the believer is connected to at all times, is also invisible for the human eye, until we believe in him. Then all of a sudden we feel and see signs, allow ourself to be encouraged and inspired by his guidance and love. But this is not possible eather without faith.

So what is a medium without faith ? From my experience consequently and most of all, a struggeling medium.

From my experience teaching in contries where the average person does not believe in God, I find that the students have more difficulty developing and succeding in demonstrating the mediumship I believe this to be partly because they do not have a strong individual relationship with something ”invisible” from where they expect ”good to come their way” (God). They may not have the experience of praying or having that inner dialogue with God or the Angelic Kingdom and therefore they tend to as students, somehow ”believe” as if they have to do everything themselfes. As a consequence they can ”forget” the very spiritworld they are attempting to work with and this, while working. It is quite common in the western world (Europe) that we sort of think that we have to ”invent the deep plate” over and over again, all the time and all alone. While in the eastern contries where it is normal to believe in God, the students already have this relationship developed with the invisible world.

Even in the religious scriptures, (The Bible, the Holy Quoran etc.) you can find very different references to the concept of the spiritworld. I was very surprised to learn that pr. instance in the Quoran it is stated that the spiritworld is right HERE (where we ”are”) and that we as humans are inside the spiritworld. Also it says that the spirits can see and feel us but we cant SEE them. Therefore when I work giving individual sittings in Turkey, the strong emphasis that I normally have on the evidential mediumship is sometimes a bit lost here since in the Turkish common shared beliefsystem, they already believe that after dying we go to the eternal existence in the spiritworld. Speaking of Turkiy is also interesting how different the Turkish student approaches and advance in their mediumistic development. I cant and wont say that they are better in any way or form whatsoever than students elsewhere, but they do tend to have less difficulties throwing themselves off the cliff in this scary, frightening gap of the free fall into what could be called FAITH.

I can talk forever and I have to end this article so really what I am aiming at here, is to encourage you to take a look at your faith and your beliefsystems and remember that developing mediumship is developing faith. Practising mediumship is faith in action!

I am hugely proud to be onboard the Accolade team and I look forward meeting you in 2012 may it be online or in the ”real” world.
