I am born and raised in Denmark in the north of Europe, in a atheist family where no one ever spoke of spirit or anything like it. Already from my early years my mom was quite busy working outside the home, why we had the most wonderful Nan whom I often give the credit for the fact that I haven’t developed into a total mental case. My Nan was not a believer either but as a person she was very spiritual, loving and patient.
I was not what they call ‘a natural born medium’ (or was I?) and I was never specificly ‘aware of spirit from a young age’, (or was I?).
Well actually now thinking back I believe that spirit was such a natural part of my life that I didn’t notice it much, but I do remember hearing a womans voice now and then telling me about the stars in the sky and other sort of ‘educational matters’.
On my 8th birthday my mom gave me a tape recorder. It was a “Grundig”, you know one of these long slim ones. Somewhere I had heard, probably on the radio, that it was possible to record the voices of the ‘dead’, which quickly became my exact intention to achieve. Evening after evening after my mom tucked me in to sleep, I secretly got up and rigged my little ’paranormal research kit’, ready to record. However, I am not sure whether I got any remarkable results on the tape, but then again that seemed less important. What drove me was my curiousity and passion for the what went on “on the other side”.
As an adult, it was only after my children left the nest that I found myself back with the tape recorder and the urge to explore the spirit world. During a life changing cancer illness I found myself in a spiritual development circle learning different techniques, practising my psychic abilities and the evidential communication with the afterlife. Since then, mediumship has been my whole life but it hasn’t always been easy. Actually at times developing my mediumship has been like a rollercoaster while at the same time handling the every day normal life with its ups and downs, as it is the case for everybody who pursues this path. In other words, I have had to work hard on refining and understanding my skills and by the way, I still am. I consider myself to be lucky to be born with the passion for the mediumistic work and this passion still today is essential. I rather prefer the term ’being born with the passion’ than to be a ‘natural born medium’, whatever this may be. I have met quite a few people during my teaching years who had a strong ability but lacked the interest, the stamina and consistency that is feeded by the passion and need to continue. If I can’t feel my passion, I can’t do sittings, platform demonstrations, and I can’t teach! Passion is the key.
So, however ‘natural born mediums’ we might be, mediumship is a fine craft that we have to master through practice. We have to experience how our own unique ‘gift’ operates. Just as a child can have an ‘ear’ for music, they still have to learn to play the piano and to read the notes. My point is, that which is really important is not your ‘gift’ but your passion! If you dont have passion you can forget about developing into ‘the worlds best medium’. It is simply not going to happen. But the passion can grow as you develop. The ‘gift’ on the other hand is not unique. We all carry mediumship within us because it is a natural thing. Natural, because we are not humans having a spiritual adventure rather are we spirits having a human experience. Therefore the spiritual abilities are natural and for all who wish to do so, they are available to develop and always open for enhancement and perfection.
One of the many reasons that I so much appreciate, recommend and enjoy to work with Accolade Academy is because of this passion that I felt the first time I met Rev. Paul & Deborah Rees. I took a last minute descision and joined a course in Margam Park and my God did I enjoy every minute of it. The feeling was like coming home. Accolade Academy offer the opportunity for hard work in a safe and loving environment with lots of encouragement, honesty and eventually true earned accolade. These ingredients builds a strong medium. The name is so right. Accolade because thats exactly what this school is offering to every one of their students. ‘Exellence is the result of passion’. Accolade Academys slogan. I couldent agree more.
Dont worry if you haven’t had a lot of fascinating and supernatural experiences. Don’t hesitate if you haven’t seen or heard spirit on several occasions. If you feel drawn to mediumship and find it interesting or even tremendously interesting then I urge you to join one of our classes in the new year. But I warn you. Be careful it can become quite addictive:-)
I wish you all a fantastic new year and that 2012 will be the year where your dreams will come true! I am looking forward meeting you in the new year both on our new internet SYBER SKOOL and of course on our new 2 year professional certification programme.
Personally I just can’t wait to get going. Have a blessed new year. See you in 2012.
Love from Shannon Bethel
