Netherland Dwarf – Smoke Pearl

Impeccable hinds

The hinds describe the area around the hipbone and the end of the back.
Netherland Dwarfs with weak hinds will typically be recognized by having two distinctive bumbs on their hindquarters, that can be felt when striking a hand across the hips and lower back. In cases of narrow hinds, the distance between theese bumbs often will be no more than the length of an short index finger joint.
Weak hinds is unwanted according to the standard, narrow hinds is associated birth complications.

The correct or impeccable hind, the bumbs on the hind is nearly never felt when stroked with a hand, and the bumbs will be so unnoticeable the distance between them can be hard to tell.

Impeccable hinds is helped forward by correct selection of breeding and feeding.

An average weight at 1000-1200 g.

According to standard, the approved weight for the Netherland Dwarf lies between 0,8 – 1,3 kg.
The dwarfs with a lower adult weight is more tricky to prepare for shows, as we have to wait for a longer time and feed them more intensively. Low weights is also associated with birth complications.
The dwarfs with a high adult weight tend to exceed the 1,3 kg limit, and then lose several of the dwarf characteritics, best described 'small on small'.
By aspiring for a weight at 1,0 – 1,2 kg we assure a healthy body weight, both physically and standard wise.

The average weight is maintained by correct selection of breeding.

Short front legs

Describes the part of the rabbits front leg, which can be compared to a humans under arm.
Netherland dwarfs with longer frontlegs tends to sit in a rather tall position while presenting, which is unwanted according to the standard. This 'tall' and stiff presentation is more sutable for a race like Polish, as it masks some of the characteristics you would want to see in the Dwarfs.
Short frontlegs somewhat ensures the lower presentation, that helps the rabbit showing its round, rich body structure. The position of the ears will also be improved when the head is turned slightly downwards.

Short frontleg traits are enhanced by correct selection of breeding.

Short fur length

The optimal fur length for a regular coated dwarf is between 2 – 2½ cm
The desire for a short fur length on avarage is a personal preference, there is no other reason, in our opinion this just gives the most aesthetic look.

Short fur length are enhanced by correct selection of breeding.

Short, straight ears

Dwarfs present themselves with the ears standing upright and close together. Those rabbits with arched and crooked ears gives a poorer impression in their presentation. This unfortunate ear possition is some places called 'bullet holes'.

Short, straight ears is helped forward by correct selection of breeding, allegedly an upbringing in cooler environments and properly performed ear markings.
