Breton is a pretty small race in Sweden, both in number but also in size. Breton is the smallest pointing bird dog and measures approx 46-51 cm tall. Despite its size, one should not be fooled, "great hunter in a small format" as the saying goes.
The breed fits me very well, I want real good hunting dogs that work well whether it be mountains, fields or forests. The fact that it is a perfect size of the dog is a huge advantage, I like small dogs.
It is important that we retain this fine breed as a familydog AND HUNTING DOG, the breed (I think) should not be used only for companion or shows, they want and need to do what they are bred to do = hunt.
If I have to describe my perception of the breed is it like this ...
A spirited, happy and enjoyable hunting dog that works great in the home.
A tireless hunter with huge hunting interest that easily adapts to the terrain.
Generally a healthy breed, unfortunately, there is epilepsy in some lines.
Perfect size without compromising on hunting properties. One huge benefit when you are having with your dog, it takes up little space in the car / tent / couch / cabin and you get many in a helicopter. Right size for a child to go out and walk with.
Breton has no problem to compete with larger breeds of hunting and field trial. This is reflected in the many fine placements available on split samples in Norway and fine results on large trialls on the continent.
A breton is really a familydog, loves to snuggle and cuddle at home.
Very easily learned and wise dog who is easy to absorb training.
Skilled sled dogs for their size with tremendous energy.
Have questions about the breed or maybe want to meet a breton, do not hesitate to contact me, I can maybe help.
