This homepage is all about landscape photography on the Danish isles of Lolland and Falster. I'm just an amateur photographer, a person who loves taking pictures in my way and on my own time of the things I like and find intriguing and challenging.
I've been interested in photography especially landscape photography on and off since I was a kid in the brave days of film, before anybody envisioned the coming of the digital era. Born and raised in Copenhagen the opportunities to do landscape photography in those remote times were limited to weekends, holidays and vacations. In maturer years I ended up on these Isles. During the transition period from film to digital I lost interest in photography, and the dust settled heavily on my large collection of film DSLR's and lenses.
A couple of years ago however, I "converted" to digital and bought some fairly decent equipment, a Canon 60D with assorted lenses and a Canon G12 as a back up. Armed with these neat tools, I started rediscovering the countryside, where I had already been living for quite a lot of years.
Granted, Denmark and Lolland-Falster in particular are not among the most spectacular parts of the Globe from the perspective of landscape photograhy. We have no snowcapped mountains, we have no grand rivers, no sublime vistas, no vast deserts, wild forrests or stretches of open land untamed by man.
But maybe like charity, landscape photography should start at home? In what other place, than where you happen to live, will you get a chance to photograph your surroundings in all seasons 24/7 over a period of years?
Landscape photography does not need to be exclusively of the wild, but can also endevour to discover the beauty of the cultivated countryside, of the forrests, which are mostly plantations in Denmark anyway. Often it is the light, the time of year or the time of day, the weather rarely for longer spells of time the same in these latitudes, which will enchant and beautify what may at first sight appear a bit dull and unchallenging to a landscape photographer's eye.
Wildness can however be found on the margins of this intensely cultivated land, the coastline, which on Lolland-Falster has a lenght of some 400 miles and is never far away! Most of it is fairly accessible, and some stretches are as lonely and deserted as if they belonged to another and vaster continent! The varied coastline, the ever changing interaction of land, sea and light is the main attraction of these isles for the photographer.
To discover beauty where you happen to live, and to try to express it in photography in order to make it more readily visible to others, not least the people living in your own region, whose senses might have become dulled to its charms through too much familiarity, is a noble challenge, a fine quest for any landscapist, I should think! If you can photograph the familiar, all too familiar and give people and your self a sense of rediscovery and enchantment at seeing the already known in a new light, you have been richly rewarded for your efforts!
I take landscape photos mainly for my own pleasure and for the enjoyment of the people living in the same area as I do.
