We have participated in the fair in Herning. The holiday fair was visited by 66.000 guests and we tried to contact all. We distributed many postcards and pamphlets and were positively received. Thus we count on many summer guests during the Festival.

We have placed an order for big banners – 10x 12 meters – which will be hung on the biggest silo in the harbor which will be visible from afar. We will advertise in miscellaneous papers and magazines and all the artists will in June receive their own postcards for distribution.

All the exhibit locations are almost in place and there will be plenty of space for all the artists. This year we have taken steps to ensure that all our guests get around to ALL. There are big prizes at stake for those guests who visit all the exhibits.

We have agreed with Coisbo Beer and Nybro  Orchard to cooperate in launching our own Festival beer and Festival apple juice.

MiniPicasso
This event was a huge success at this year’s Festival. So huge that it definitely will be repeated next year, only we will make sure that all get the opportunity to paint on real canvas and not on paper plates! Fjord and Bælt have announced that they will participate with the same agreement as this year.

MaxiPicasso
Many of the children’s parents were very dissatisfied with the grown- ups not having the opportunity of trying out their artistic talents. So next year we will have a tent for those parents who would like and dare to try out their skills. The artists Grethe Trandberg and Jeff Ibbo, have promised to help the performing parents.

Den Fynske Kulturpris

Kerteminde Municipality has set the International Art Festival to Fyn Culture Award. We say thank you.

Kerteminde Kommunes Kulturudvalg
har indstillet International Art Festival til Den Fynske Kulturpris. Vi siger tusind tak.

The opening this year
As we this year have focused on getting the whole of Kerteminde involved we have chosen to be locally founded, meaning:

We have two local speakers to open the Festival:

Mads Nørby
Manager of the Kerteminde Revue

As a young lad he took an apprenticeship as bricklayer and worked as such until his dream came true.

In 1985 the at that time only 28 year old Copenhagener was

In 2005 Mads Nørby took part in restarting the revue tradition in Kerteminde and for the past three years he has acted as instructor of the revue in Tornøes Hotel. In 2007 he even decided to pull his weight on stage too.

Else Møller
Chairwoman of the Cherry Festival and former mayor

Else Møller was educated housekeeping teacher but has always been politically active.

Her own political career started when she in 1978 was elected into Kerteminde town council. She has been a member since then. Furthermore from 1990 till 1994 she was a member of Funen’s county council. From 2001 till 2006 she was mayor in Kerteminde municipality. Since 2006 she has been chairwoman for the society of art and culture in the Kerteminde district and thereby leader of the Cherry Festival.

We are also working on project ”BENCH” – meaning:

A workshop for mentally handicapped persons has made 10 garden benches for us - 10 artists will decorate these benches during the week, an event which during the Festival week will take place at the exhibit places, in the town square and in the streets.

On Sunday July 8th at 12 pm at the town square we plan to sell the benches by auction and the whole amount from the auction will be donated to the homeless.

All the participating artists have also announced exciting events – we will have 9 days with loads of activities in town.

Sculpture’12

More BIG sculptures

The many sculptors from the Danish Society of Sculptors will again this year bring unique works to the Festival, and sculptures of all sizes will drizzle on our lovely town. Of course we will repeat last year’s success with guided tours to all the sculptures. Details regarding time etc will be in the 140 pages impressive catalogue which at the moment is being designed.

More headliners this year

After the great success in 2011 we wish to make the Festival even better, bigger, wider, more spectacular and last, but not least, much more cutting edge art. We have done our utmost to find the right artists who are able to fulfil this requirement.

This year’s festival will be divided into three parts – Invited artists – Censured artists – Local artists, though, they will be tied together as a unit under International Art Festival 2012.

Nadia Plesner

Nadia is still working on new exciting works for her exhibition in her studio in Amsterdam where she lives and at present is finalizing her training at the Academy of Arts.

Nadia has promised to show up during the Festival week and deliver a lecture on her life as an artist, her fight with Louis Vuitton and about the Nadia Plesner Foundation, not boring we might add! The details will be in the catalogue.

Jens Galschiøt

We have visited Jens Galschiøt in his workshop or shall we say his fantastic world, an enormous complex of buildings with bronze sculptures of all sizes and shapes – a deeply fascinating experience with a human who is deeply committed to the weaker parties in society. We picked a row of fantastic works of art for the festival – look forward to it, it will be fantastic!

As Nadia, Jens will deliver a lecture during the week of his many exciting events and experiences as a world artist who is not afraid of expressing his opinion. The details will be in the catalogue.

Vini Iuel will again entertain at the opening.

It is said that one must take care of repeating a success, but we also think that tradition is a good thing. And now that we do have a world star in Kerteminde, who contributes genuine bossa nova/jazz, we are enthusiastic that Vini Iuel Kjærsgaard has accepted to entertain at next year’s opening of the Festival

Known artist in the streets

How would you like to meet, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Johannes Larsen or Michael Anker themselves? That will be possible during the Festival where actors from the town’s amateur theatre KAT will perform small sketches with and about great personalities within art.

Kino is back

As in 2011, we signed an agreement with the city's cinema KINO. During the festival, KINO will show narrow art movie for kids and adults. We obviously can’t tell what will be shown at this time, but once we have the titles, they will appear on this page.

Local artists in own ateliers

As a novelty we have decided that next year the local artists who do not wish to participate in the censuring will have the opportunity to participate without cen-suring. They themselves are responsible for finding a place to exhibit and they will pay the same amount as the censured artists, this in order to cover the marketing expenses.
